The Stardust convex mirror is based on a frame I found that had a wonderful shape. The proportions were right and it was deep enough. The only problem was that it was hard plastic and hollow. I had to fill the void with resin and epoxy to give the frame heft and solidity. After gilding it with silver I layered clear Venetian glass rods to give the surface depth and richness. At the end of each ray is a finial of rock crystal quarts spheres and roughly tumbled quartz beads.
One of my favorite songs is Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael(1927) and the concluding lyrics go like this:
Beside a garden wall,
When stars are bright,
You are in my arms.
The nightingale tells his fairy tale,
A paradise where roses bloom,
Though I dream in vain.
In my heart it will remain,
My stardust melody,
The memory of love’s refrain
The Stardust convex mirror is about 13″ in diameter. It is about to be shipped to a new venue.
Jewelry for walls!
