The Epiphany convex mirror is a star shaped frame, gilded with gold metal leaf and layered with clear Venetian glass. Gilded cabochons frame the half-dome mirror.

An epiphany is an experience of a sudden and striking realization. Generally the term is used to describe a scientific breakthrough or a divine, religious or philosophical discovery, but it can apply in any situation in which an enlightening realization allows a problem or situation to be understood from a new and deeper perspective. For instance, I had an epiphany in my late childhood that my taste tended towards more decoration rather than less. Perhaps it had something to do with my discovery of chinoiserie, the baroque and MGM musicals….
The Epiphany in the Christian tradition comes from the human realization that Jesus Christ is the son of God. The visit of the Three Magi personify the first epiphany/realization. The Magi were guided by a brilliant star so the star shape of my mirror makes sense!
