The Vanessa convex mirror is the result of my scraping a lot of ugly plastic flowers from an old round frame. The resulting plain wood gave me the opportunity to embellish it with layers of Venetian glass rods in yellow, amber, bronze and gold colors. The rim is composed of small upright glass rods creating a mosaic effect.
The mirror is 15.5 inches in diameter.

This mirror is inspired by the 1957 opera Vanessa composed by Samuel Barber and the libretto by Gian-Carlo Menotti. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Music. It premiered at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and was a triumph for all involved.
The opera concerns the poignancy and bitter regret of lost love. But it is also about hope and the redemption of love.
