the Syrinx convex mirror

In Mirrors by Mark Evans

The Syrinx convex mirror was inspired by the beautiful, pale amethyst crystal points I found. The really established the design of this mirror. I used a thick silver gilded frame that I embellished with light lilac Venetian glass rods and a rim of amethyst beads.

The Syrinx mirror is about 16 inches in diameter. It resided in my studio pending being shipped to one of my venues.

Pan and Syrinx – Noël-Nicolas Coypel III (1690-1734)

The name is from the Greek word syrinx (pipe), a reference to the hollow stems of the lilac. Also, a Greek myth that Pan, the god of the forests and fields, chased Syringa through the forest. Frightened by Pan’s affections, Syringa escaped him by turning herself into an aromatic bush – the flower we now refer to as lilac.
