The Pagadam convex mirror was inspired by the quartz/glass red points I found at the Tucson Gem & Mineral show. These crystal points are made from a combination of melted leaded glass and ground quartz. The wood frame was gilded with metal leaf and the surface is embellished with red quartz/glass spheres and cabochons.
The Pagadam convex mirror is about 18 inches in diameter and is being shipped to my NYC venue, KRB. Call 212-288-2221 for more information.

Pagadam is the Telugu speaking regional name for red coral in India.
Red coral is the most used term for this gemstone. Red coral is the intensely colored and durable skeleton of certain marine corals and has significant astrological and spiritual meaning. However, in Greek mythology the story of the creation of red coral is a hoot:
Perseus, having petrified the sea monster Cetus by exposing it to the hideous head of Medusa decided to wash his hands in a river( must have been messy!). He placed Medusa’s head on the riverbank so that he could proceed with his washing and when he was finished he picked up her head and saw that Medusa’s blood and turned the seaweed in the river to red coral. Thus the word for coral is “Gorgeia” as Medusa was one of the three Gorgons.
