Midas was a mythological king in ancient Greece who was awarded by the god Dionysius of the proverbial “touch of gold.” Everything that Midas touched would turn into gold which initially delighted the greedy king. But it was also a curse in that food and drink also turned into solid gold. Midas soon starved but the final curse was that when he embraced his daughter, she too turned into gold.
