the Hermia convex mirror

In Mirrors by Mark Evans

The Hermia convex mirror features alternating mineral spheres around the perimeter of the gold leafed frame. The smaller ones are blue calcite and the larger ones are blue/green apatite. The inside of the frame is embellished with two tones of transparent blue Venetian glass rods.

The Hermia mirror was a special commission for my KRB showroom in New York.

The Hermia mirror is about 10 inches in diameter.

An illustration of Hermia surrounded by fairies by John Simmons circa 1861

In Shakespeare’s play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream( 1595-96) Hermia is one of the four human lovers lost in a forest and manipulated by the invisible world of fairies.

Hermia is the daughter of an ancient fictional Greek king and is characterized by her strong, stubborn, loyal and independent nature. She is in love and wants to marry Lysander( see my Lysander mirror!)
