the Helena convex mirror

In Mirrors by Mark Evans

The Helena convex mirror features rock crystal quartz spheres. The silver leafed frame is covered with layers of Venetian glass rods in transparent shades of pale swimming pool colors. This mirror is about 7 inches in diameter.

The Helena convex mirror hangs in my studio pending being shipped to one of my NYC venue, KRB. Call 212-288-2221 for more information.

A 9th century miniature of Saint Helena discovering the True Cross

Flavia Julia Helena  circa AD 246/248 – 330), also known as Empress Helena of Constantinople and in Christianity as Saint Helena.  She was the mother of Emperor Constantine the Great as well as a canonized saint in both Catholic and Orthodox Churches for her pivotal role in the spread of Christianity. She was born in the lower classes traditionally in Asia Minor.

Helena ranks as an important figure in the history of Christianity. When she was in her 80’s she made a religious tour of Syria, Palestine and Jerusalem, during which ancient tradition claims that she discovered the True Cross. This “true cross” has been divided up, if not splintered, over centuries as holy relics across Europe.

The authenticity of Helena’s “true cross” is highly dubious.

One of Helena’s fragments of the true cross located in Vienna

For me, my favorite Saint Helena is a very charming town just north of San Francisco.
