The Alzira convex mirror contrasts the glitter of gold metal leaf with the optics of transparent Venetian glass and the milky nature of jasper spheres. Small, glassy citrine spheres join the jasper with the shine of the gold metal.
Alzira is 9.75 inches in diameter. It is being shipped to my NYC venue, KRB. Call 212-288-2221 for more information.

Alzira is named for the 1845 opera by Giuseppe Verdi. It is early Verdi and was not a success when it premiered and is rarely performed today. It is based on a 1736 play by Voltaire and has been described as a passionate, violent melodrama.
The opera is about a clash between the native Americans of the Incan Empire and the conquering colonialists of Spain. Needless to say, a Spanish aristocrat( Alzira) is in love with a studly Incan rebel. Both are thwarted by their circumstances and they are torn apart but are united only after betrayal, crass manipulation and multiple deaths. Verdi’s operas seem to result in many of the main characters dead by the final curtain!
