the Celestial Orb Convex Mirror

In All, Mirrors by Mark Evans

The Celestial Orb convex mirror is composed of a wood frame that has been lacquered black and silver leafed in sections.  Each layer is studded with glass and acrylic spheres and cabochons.

This mirror is about 20 inches in diameter.    It is currently in my studio pending being shipped to one of my showrooms.

As you can see I have an extensive collection of mineral spheres that I have acquired all over the world.  I have almost 200 of them.  The sphere is a perfect shape to me.

Famous Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s “Narcissus Garden”is a garden of 1,500 celestial silver orbs in an abandoned train garage in the Rockaway, New York.

Thomas Wright’s publication An original theory or new hypothesis of the Universe (1750) explained the appearance of the Milky Way as “an optical effect due to our immersion in what locally approximates to a flat layer of stars. This manifesto has some of the most arresting cosmic illustrations ever committed to paper.

Thomas Wright believed that star systems were spheres with stars scattered over the surface.
