the Bhagan convex mirror

In Mirrors by Mark Evans

The Bhagan convex mirror is built around polished tiger eye spheres that are bigger than golf balls. I found these in Tucson at the Gem/Mineral show.

The striking thing about tiger eye is the chatoyancy. This is an optical effect giving the mineral a luminous, almost holographic quality. The shimmer shifts depending on the movement of the viewer and the direction of light.

Bhagan is embellished with gold metal leaf and a mosaic of gold, transparent Venetian glass rods.

The Bhagan convex mirror is around 12.5 inches in diameter. It hangs in my studio pending being shipped to one of my showrooms.

Bhagan is a god in Hindu mythology. He is the god of wealth, money, and due inheritance. He is one of the 12 Adityas, so a son of Aditi and Kashyapa. Since he is an aditya, he represents an aspect of the Sun. The aspect he represents is bright light. Bhaga is usually invoked along with the other Adityas. Bhaga in considered in-charge of the month March.
