The Desdemona mirror is created using two frames. The outer one is a sunburst and the inner gives the frame weight and balance. All are encrusted with layers of Venetian glass in gold and amber colors making the frame almost Byzantine.
The center of the frame is a large aquamarine cabochon backed by a mirror.
The mirror measures about 18 inches high by 15 inches wide.

The Desdemona Mirror is named after the tragic heroine in Verdi’s opera Othello. The richness and almost ecclesiastic design of the frame refers to her piety and Venetian origins. The green tint of the cabochon refers to her husband Othello’s lethal jealousy.
