the Tannhauser convex mirror

In Mirrors by Mark Evans

The Tannhauser convex mirror is composed of a frame gilded with silver and gold leaf, Venetian glass rods and tiger eye points and spheres The mirror is a true half dome giving the frame an almost 3D effect. I’ve always loved tiger eye not only because of the silky maple color but specially the chatoyancy( an optical effect providing an almost translucent luminosity) derived from the alignment of the quartz rutiles within the mineral.

The Tannhauser convex mirror is about 20 inches in diameter and is going to be shipped to my new New York venue, KRB, in the near future.

Tannhäuser is an 1845 opera in three acts, with music and text by Richard Wagner. It is based on two German legends: Tannhäuser, the mythologized medieval German singer and poet, and the tale of the Wartburg Song Contest. The opera is basically the struggle Tannhauser has between sacred and profane love. The music is sublimely sexy!
