The Sylph convex mirror is small but thinks its a lot bigger. Lol! The thick frame is gilded with silver and embellished with clear Venetian glass rods. The spheres are rock crystal quartz interspersed with clear glass spheres.
The Sylph convex mirror is about 6.25 inches in diameter. It is at my NYC venue, KRB. Call 212-288-2221 for more information.

Sylph (also called sylphid) is a mythological creature in the Western tradition. The term originates in Paracelsus( an alchemist, physician and philosopher during the German renaissance) 1473-1541, who describes sylphs as invisible beings of the air, his elementals of air. This book was published after he died, A Book on Nymphs, Sylphs, Pygmies, and Salamanders, and on the Other Spirits.

La Sylphide is the name of one of the oldest classical ballets still performed. A tragic love story between a human and a sylph.
A side note to this ballet, it was the first to be performed en pointe( on the dancer’s tip toe). At the Paris premiere in 1832 the performer dancing the lead sylph, Marie Taglioni, sewed her own slippers to be able to dance that way. Her ethereal, almost weightless performance is legendary. Dancing en pointe is now standard in classical ballet.
