the Palmyra convex mirror

In Mirrors by Mark Evans

The Palmyra convex mirror is a celebration of all things gold. The frame has been gilded with gold metal leaf and embellished with layers of clear and rich yellow Venetian glass. Surrounding the frame is a halo of very unusual striped golden yellow fluorite points. Each of these points is unique and each is striated in color from bronze black to dazzling lemon yellow.

The Palmyra convex mirror is about 24 inches in diameter and is being shipped to my Atlanta showroom, Ainsworth-Noah. Call 404-231-8787. for more information.

First image of Palmyra in European art, circa 1691

Palmyra is a fabled, ancient city located in present day Syria. Palmyra dates back as far at the Neolithic period. It became part of the Roman Empire in the first century, CE. Palmyra became rich because of its location on the Silk Road, trading goods from China, Africa, Southern Europe and India.

Palmyra’s wealth allowed the construction of many immense temples, amphitheaters, colonnades, palaces and tombs. Over the span of centuries these glorious edifices were reduced to ruins. They were still very impressive! Unfortunately the savagery of the Syrian civil war combined with the barbarity of ISIL reduces much of Palmyra to ruins. This is a great loss for all humanity.
