the Ginevra convex mirror

In Mirrors by Mark Evans

The Ginevra mirror really isn’t a mirror at all. At the center is a mirrored oval cabochon. Sort of a mirror with no reflection. The frame was gilded with gold metal leaf and encrusted with layers of yellow, pale gold and light topaz Venetian glass rods. A separate, raised sunburst surrounds the cabochon.

The Ginevra mirror is 12 by 7 inches in size. It resides in my showroom till being shipped to one of my showrooms.

Portrait of Ginevra de’ Benci by Leonardo da Vinci( 1474-1478)

I sued to play hooky in the National Gallery in Washington D.C. Yes, really. This splendid portrait of the 16 year old Ginevra has always been on of my favorites. For more go to https://www.nga.gov/collection/highlights/da-vinci-ginevra-de-benci.html
