the Compass Star convex mirror

In Mirrors by Mark Evans

The Compass Star convex mirror is loaded with rock quartz crystal points. Some of them are around five inches long! Combined with Venetian glass rods and a thick wood frame the mirror is very heavy. This piece has stature and yet is delicate.

This mirror is around 19 inches in diameter. It will be transported to the Jasper showroom in Los Angeles. Call 305-315-3028 for more information.

Jewelry for walls!

A compass star, sometimes called a wind rose, rose of the winds or compass rose, is a figure on a compass, map, nautical chart, or monument used to display the orientation of the cardinal directions( north, east, south and west)and their intermediate points. It is also the term for the graduated markings found on the traditional magnetic compass. Today, a form of compass rose is found on, or featured in, almost all navigation systems.

In the process of creating all my mirrors I use the geometry of the compass star to arrange the “rays”. As an image it is practical and useful but also is very beautiful!
