the Anteros convex mirror

In Mirrors by Mark Evans

The Anteros convex mirror started as a great, starburst shaped frame that I refinished and gilded with metal leaf. The slightly recessed area in each “ray” was gilded with silver. The reflective gilding provides a back-light so that the stacked Venetian glass rods shimmer. Transparent rods cover most of the frame but the recessed areas have a light bronze color glass. The variation of gold tones create a rhythm that help accent the shape of the frame.

The Anteros convex mirror is about 23 inches in diameter.

This mirror will be shipped to my Atlanta showroom, Ainsworth-Noah. Call 404-231-8787 for more information.

Jewelry for Walls!

This oil painting is on the quatrefoil-shaped ceiling of one of the rooms adjacent to the Sala d’Ercole on the ground floor of the Palazzo Marucelli-Fenzi. It depicts Eros being punished by his brother Anteros Ricci presents the two youths as a group wrestling in midair. Anteros, crowned with a laurel wreath, is pulling feathers from the wing of the falling Eros. Directly below this group the mother of the two brothers, Aphrodite is lamenting, surrounded by nymphs and satyrs.

In Greek mythology Anteros is the son of the gods Ares and Aphrodite. Anteros is the god of requited or mature love. He is also the avenger of scorned love. His brother, Eros, is the god of fresh love and sex.

Anteros formosus found in the Andes

This beautiful butterfly is named for Anteros. I think it displays the conflict/contrast between mature love( Anteros) and passionate, sudden love ( Eros).
