Persephone Convex Mirror

In Mirrors by Mark Evans

Persephone Convex Mirror

The Persephone convex mirror is composed of a gilded frame layered with Venetian glass rods and a mandala of quartz crystal points.  The combination of gold and silver, glass and quartz make the Persephone mirror a one-of-a-kind work of art.

The Persephone convex mirror is 14 inches in diameter and is currently in my studio pending being sent to a showroom.

Persephone Detail

In Greek mythology Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and the goddess of the harvest, Demeter.  Persephone is the goddess of growth, renewal and abundance.  She was abducted by Hades, the god of the underworld and forced to live with him.  Persephone’s disappearance made the world frozen and barren.  Her mother grieved so heavily that Zeus sent Mercury to the underworld to plead for her return.  Hades agreed but only if she returned to him three months of the year.  Her return to her mother enabled the world to flourish with warmth, flowers and vegetation.  This, of course, is a metaphor for the four seasons.

Persephone is revered as a goddess of fertility and plenty.  As queen of the underworld she is known as a compassionate intercessor for the cursed souls of the dead.
